About Gateway Science Museum

Gateway Science Museum opened in 2010 as a university science museum with financial support from the community and state legislators. Gateway is a unit within the College of Natural Sciences. This 10,000 square foot purpose-built museum is situated on the eastern edge of the campus next to Bidwell Mansion. Gateway’s mission is to inspire the exploration of science and natural history in our region and beyond. Through hands on and minds on exhibitions, discovery galleries, native plants gardens, and dynamic public and school programs, Gateway provides visitors of all ages a way to connect with science and the natural environment.

Approximately 18,000 visitors, including 6,000 school children, come to Gateway each year. More than 300 families enjoy a family membership and Gateway provides free admission to a variety of special community groups. CSU, Chico students may visit the museum for free.

With more than 8,000 hours of university student-related activities each year, Gateway is a site of learning for CSU, Chico students.
