HCLTech

Full-Stack Software Engineer

May - September 2023 • Sofia, Sofia City

What I liked

I learned a lot about working on a team and creating an actual product that real companies will use. I developed a ton of skills related to my major: working with AWS tools, .NET Web development, ML model development, etc.

What I wish was different

I wish I had a little bit better monetary stimulation. However, I am happy with what I got.

Advice

Keep looking for a job where you will feel valued and where you are going to learn a lot. Don't just look for a job for the sake of having a job.

What I liked

I love how diverse and friendly this organization is. Great company to enhance, grow and obtain new skills for the IT industry. Excellent, attentive, and caring upper management. Great compensation and work/life balance for someone starting out in IT. Co-workers are friendly as well. Love how they place emphasis on obtaining and maintaining soft skills. You will set yourself in learning mode for this company which is great for entry-level applicants.

Advice

The first phase of the learning process can be fast-paced so you will have to pace yourself for completion.

Java Developer

February 2022 • Frisco, TX

What I liked

What I like about HCL Technologies is the company's culture that cater towards new professional graduates. Their developer program helps transition from university academics coding to industry based standards coding. After the training program, I felt more informative and better prepared as a software engineer professional. I was hired as a Java developer into the legacy modernization team as a fresh graduate. Work environment is friendly and there are limitless opportunities that are offered for additional licenses and certifications.

What I wish was different

There are standardized assessment examinations. My advice to anyone is to study using hacker rank on sql, algorithms, Java and typical GRE practice exams on logic, critical thinking and basic reasoning.

Advice

NETWORK, NETWORK, NETWORK!!! Be eager to establish rapport with your mentors, coworkers, senior engineers, and managers. As a developer, you are expected to be asked upon a lot of technical questions and its best to respond effectively throughout technical meetings and presentations.

What I liked

I'm still working here. I like their continuous initiative to cater to new hires and make their transition into the corporate world more enjoyable than frantic. I was the first one hired into the 5G Development team as a college hire, but now we've had a few batches of new hires for this team and developing some good communication between employees. Everyone is friendly and eager to learn here, and the training is essentially limitless.

What I wish was different

There are standardized assessments and industry-recognized tests that you might need to undertake in many of their tech positions. Sometimes they don't tell you entirely what their expectations are on the test, so you need to ask them up front. These tests are good for your career as a whole, but they can be very tough if you don't study.

Advice

Communicate with your mentors and managers. Be personable and fun, but without disrupting business and learning plans. Networking with coworkers and higher ups alike is vital to your journey in a corporate career with over 200,000 employees. HCL has a plethora of different paths you could take throughout the years, so be friendly and also diligent in your work. If you can listen and learn, you'll find a way to walk that fine line.

Software Developer Intern

May 2020 • Chelmsford, MA

What I liked

HCL is a very welcoming company that is very warm and nurturing to its interns. I did not feel pressured to perform, but I was always encouraged to ask questions in order to get the job done.

What I wish was different

Overall, it was a good experience. Anything that could have been changed was only due to the pandemic.

Advice

Working during the quarantine can be very alienating, but my experience here was very reassuring.

Frontend Software Developer Intern

May 2019 • Cary, NC

What I liked

How flexible the job was with my schedule during the summer and the falling fall semester.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more younger professionals in the workplace that I could talk to. I felt 'alone' a lot because I was one of few women in the entire office and by far one of the youngest people there.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions!
