About National Archives and Records Administration - DC

The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is the nation's record keeper. An independent federal agency established in 1934, NARA’s mission is to identify, protect, preserve, and make publicly available the historically valuable records of all three branches of the Federal government. NARA manages the Federal government’s archives, administers a system of Presidential Libraries, operates museums, conducts education and public programs, provides oversight of government-wide records management activities, and provides temporary storage of other agencies’ records on their behalf.

NARA invites undergraduate and graduate level students to submit applications for our voluntary internship programs which provides hands-on opportunities to practice historical thinking skills and work directly with primary sources to learn historical content and explore the holdings of the National Archives.
