Camp Roger

Camp Counselor

May 2022 • Rockford, MI

What I liked

I enjoyed the ability to be with kids all day, and see the simple joys that they shared. I grew very close in community with the rest of the staff as well.

What I wish was different

More space in the day for time with counselors, the schedule is very packed which is fun but there is limited space for breaks.

Advice

If you love kids and being outdoors, do it! Don't focus on the salary because you will gain so much more than a monetary experience.

Camp Counselor

May - August 2018 • Rockford, MI

What I liked

I loved being able to work outside in the woods and be with kids. The most rewarding part was loving them and telling them about their Savior Jesus Christ who loves them! We had an amazing staff and Camp is really like a second home for me.

What I wish was different

Camp Scottie is a very new ministry of Camp Roger and the only thing I would wish to be different is for the Camp Scottie campus to be a little more developed- but that will come with time!

Advice

You will learn SO much from camp counseling and gain such valuable experience. You don't always realize it in the day-to-day but you are making a huge impact on these kids lives. I HIGHLY encourage anyone to prayerfully consider applying to this job!

What I liked

Camp Roger was a great experience were I learned a lot about how to work with kids and teaching them the principles of Christian living by modeling and showing Christ love to campers. Camp Roger was a great place to explore nature and see God in all He has made.

Advice

One piece of advice I would give for those considering this experience as one to pursue is that if you do not LOVE kids then this will be difficult for you. Kids are great, they will teach you things adults cannot, but they can also challenge a counselor to a significant degree.

What I liked

I love working with kids and spending time outdoors, so this was an amazing job opportunity. I got to work with phenomenal people as well who are now my good friends.

What I wish was different

I wish I had gotten more sleep :)

Advice

I would highly recommend being a camp counselor, but it's important to be intentional about keeping up relationships outside of the 'camp world.'

What I liked

I enjoyed the way Camp Roger strived to love kids and love nature. The staff at Camp Roger works really hard to make camp a safe place for kids to be creative, silly, and learn about Jesus.
