Fifth Third Bank

IT Audit Intern

May - July 2023 • Cincinnati, OH

What I liked

They put together quality intern events and the corporate office was cool. They had great access to networking and people generally were really nice.

What I wish was different

They had a mandated group project that was outside of your normal area that wasn't well managed. I don't feel I was set up for success very well. Feedback quality was marginal at best and didn't address apparent issues they claimed were a thing later. I saw my manager in the office only a couple of times. I ran out of work constantly and stopped doing actual IT Auditing about 3/4 of the wy it. Some interns in my area had different placements and different experiences but I ended up in a poor spot.

Advice

Always ask yourself what can I be doing right now to set yourself up for success later. Be relentless in asking questions, keeping conversations going with your direct team, and asking for constant feedback that is specific.

Great pay Fun work/play culture Exposure to executives and leadership team Individual responsibilities and projects

What I wish was different

The onboarding process was difficult to navigate. I wish there was more staff availability to guide through the process and answer questions, to allow me to fully get into the work more quickly.

Advice

Don't be afraid to be assertive when you feel you can handle more work or something isn't working for you.

Operations Leadership Program Intern

May - August 2021 • Cincinnati, OH

What I liked

The accessibility to leaders within the company and the ability to network with so many individuals in such a short amount of time. There was such a variety in how my time was spent on a daily basis.

What I wish was different

Nothing.

Leadership programs are one of the best ways to find out what you are good at and what you want to do/what you want in a career. Everyone should look into one in their desired field!

Customer Service Representative

June 2019 • Cincinnati, OH

What I liked

I liked how much I learned while at the bank. I learned more about personal finance and money management through observations and practice at the bank more than I did in any classroom. Also, I was trained on how to cross-sell products to potential customers and current customers.

What I wish was different

I wish that there would have been more training/information on how to move up in the company. Luckily, more co workers are terrific and gave me tips.

Advice

Do not be nervous while selling stuff (or do your best to hide it). Customers can see it and will respond poorly.

Bank Teller

April - August 2019 • Chesterfield, MI

What I liked

Very appreciative of their employees. I also enjoyed my job functions/duties. Competitive wages & bonuses!! Simulations were very helpful during training.

What I wish was different

Tuition Reimbursement. You have to apply before the class begins. Just a difficult process honestly. Also not the best policies for customers, which they would take out on the tellers.

Advice

Be patient when it comes to them finding a location they want you at. Do not get discouraged during training, once you being simulations and actual work, things come together.

Capital Markets Operations Intern

May - July 2018 • Cincinnati, OH

What I liked

Structured Program. I was able to network with over 95 individuals at the bank. I was challenged, and had a lot of responsibility. There were 60 interns downtown so it was awesome to get lunch with them and spend time with them in the city.

What I wish was different

Nothing. I wish Fifth Third had more locations to work at if you accepted full time position.

Advice

Ask questions! Build your network! Such an amazing experience. I think anyone would really love this opportunity.

Softare Developer

May - August 2018 • Cincinnati, OH

What I liked

Interns treated well. The Information Technology Leadership Program (ITLP) participants get a free card to talk with most anyone they want to network and connect with. I got to work under very experienced and intelligent software developers and learned some better practices

What I wish was different

I wish that the sector of banking was more interesting to me. It could have certainly lasted longer, and I wish the focus was more learning engaged rather than networking-- but I acknowledge the different priorities of the program.

Advice

Move. Be persistent about ANY on-boarding issue and get it resolved asap in the proper flow per IT's recommendations. If you don't take action, everyone else will be too busy to get you anything to do. So come to work ready to crush it. Also, contrary to that point, when you have moments to rest and enjoy other's company, take every moment to bond and practice self-care to best enjoy your time there

Commercial Leadership Program Intern

May - July 2018 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

I was able to participate on a lot of deals and contributed a lot. There were opportunities to get as much out of it as I wanted to. I was able to network with many different people in the company.

What I wish was different

I wish the company did not go through a merger. I would have received a full-time offer if they had enough spots and did not have the merger.

Advice

Networking is a big part of the internship. You have the opportunity to meet with very influential people within the company.
