What I liked

Mainly, what I really liked about this job was it made me interact on a whole new level with each and every person who walked through the door. It made me more confident in my ability to interact with the average person. Whereas, previously interactions made me almost nervous and to be feel judged. At this job, it really brought me out of my comfort zone and made me make many connections I wouldn’t have done previously. It even made me feel more confident for college and being able to have those interactions like I did at Gamestop.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have just been myself right of the bat. Not being so nervous, and shy. Once I grew out of that shell it was so much fun and gave me a new perspective.

Advice

Not everything in the world is out to get you like many people my age think. It’s about stepping outside of what feels “weird” or “awkward” and just establishing who you truly are as a person. It definitely more fun to not care what other people think so much and judgment they may have. It’s about the next step, not how people view you now at this moment.

Advice

To take this job, you need to be really good at selling. It's fun hanging out with cool people and talking about games, but at the end of the day, what they don't tell you is how aggressive the Sale's culture is at GameStop as opposed to larger retailer's. Certain stores are easier than others, but at the end of your day, your numbers matters.

What I liked

I enjoy discussing merchandise and game-related topics with guests. Those discussions help connect me to the guest to help them enjoy their time there and also provide what information or item they are looking for.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have had more experience with guest service in the beginning so I could have been more helpful, but training with my co-workers and experiencing more astonishingly helped improve that flaw.

Advice

I would advice to relax and be yourself, but also be respectful and responsible.

Customer Service

October 2017 • Fargo, ND

What I liked

Flexible Schedule, understanding management, and fun co-workers.

What I wish was different

I wish I had found an internship or something else that helped me develop more desirable skills.

Advice

Don't stress too much about your job if you're in customer service. Just do what you can and don't take it personally when the inevitable rude customer decides to take out their anger on you.

What I liked

The coworkers, the generally easy work load.

What I wish was different

District leaders actually acknowledging accomplishments, realistic goals, less threat of losing my job over numbers I don’t have much control over.

Advice

It’s a good job to meet cool people that you’ll be working with, but I wouldn’t recommend it in general because of how hard employees are pushed over numbers. Especially trade numbers which are the hardest to change.

Sales Associate

October 2017 • Lincoln, NE

What I liked

It's a lot of fun to get to spend my time talking to people about something I really enjoy. I get to talk about video games, anime, and other nerdy things and get paid for it. Not a ton of money, but very fun.

What I wish was different

I wish that upper management was a bit more transparent with the low level workers, but other than that I loved my job.

Advice

If you work somewhere that is fun and is in a field you enjoy, work goes by a lot faster, is more rewarding, and makes you want to put more effort in.
