What I liked

I loved the chance to sharpen my skills as a writer and as an editor. I learn a lot about how to write to a specific audience, how to optimize an article for SEO, and how to market the magazine on social media.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have been able to edit more. This internship was mostly writing.

Writing, Editing, Marketing Intern

January 2021 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

You did learn a lot about the beauty world. It's a great foot in the door into online writing. Also, the founder of the magazine is impressive, and you will grow to understand online social media business.

What I wish was different

I wish there was a heavier hand in editing! Some of the articles could have used more revisions for better clarification. Also, SEO is great, but adhering to YOAST SEO guidelines in every article was a pain and it felt like my more thought out material was heavily modified, which i did not like.

Advice

Working under the founder is great! She is flexible and tells you from the start, "You get what you put into this internship". The description for this internship seems like A LOT of work each week, but it's not really like that. You have a few tasks each week and move onto to something else. All the work is spread out.

What I liked

I enjoy how flexible this internship is. You're able to select which team and projects you want to be apart of.

What I wish was different

Due to the pandemic, the internship is remote. It would've been more exciting to meet up in person.
