Home Run Inn Pizza

Dining Room Host/Hostess

July 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I liked being exposed to a different environment and learning about the restaurant business. There is a lot that goes into it and you learn various skills like how to be paitent and to pick and chose your battles with co-workers because it can get stressful.

What I wish was different

I am currently still working at Home Run Inn but I wish I knew that it was okay to make mistakes in the begging. I was beating myself up too much when I would accidentally seat someone in the wrong section or forget an item for delivery but it's normal and everyone has been in my position at one point.

Advice

The best advice I received is you're not here to make friends you're here to work. At first, it sounds harsh but in the restaurant business, it's so easy to get caught up in drama and have that affect how you work and just in general. People will always get butthurt about things and work for others is a place to pour their troubles onto you. The best thing to do is to ignore it and continue to work at your best ability.
