Floor Staff

May - September 2021 • Boston, MA

What I liked

Great teamwork and social environment. Scheduling was relatively flexible, especially for a customer service job. Free popcorn during breaks and a 50% discount on concessions. In general, helped me understand customer service since I never had a customer service job before.

What I wish was different

I wish that there would be less standing around and doing nothing, but this was more a symptom of the pandemic than an actual workplace issue. Some ushers wouldn't be held accountable for cleaning everything they were supposed to clean, which placed more work on the shoulders of other staff. Rules maintained by management were somewhat inconsistent.

Advice

There are very few ways to move up in the company, so it works really only as a temporary way to make money. There's high turnover due to college student workers having to move, anyways, so don't feel any guilt putting in your two weeks notice.

What I wish was different

Floor Staff

June - August 2019 • San Antonio, TX

What I liked

The employee discount is pretty nice, you also get 2 free tickets to any movie every week. The people were pretty nice and it was a good experience.

What I wish was different

At the time I was working I wish I got paid a bit better or not to be pushed to 35 hours every week, so close to being full time, but not allowed cause of company policy and probably dodging benefits for employees.

Advice

I have never been a huge cinephile, but once I started working here, I tried my best to take advantage of the free tickets, the reason I say this is because I went from going to the movies maybe once every three months and then started going once a week at least. The amount of money I started spending at the movies went up exponentially, of course they are paying for me, but since the free tickets don't stack, I felt like I was going to miss out on that free ticket, of course it's all an illusion to try to make the employee give more money back to Regal, but it was pretty nice. TLDR: If you go to the movies a lot, then this job's perks are great! If not then be careful with the employee discounts, you will probably spend more money at the movies after getting a job there. (Probably is true for any job that offers similar perks)

Waitress

May 2019 • Moore, OK

What I liked

Flexible hours that work with a school schedule. Not difficult work. Movie tickets which was nice over summer

What I wish was different

More pay, a more agreeable work environment, less hours.

Advice

Balance work and freetime, don't overwork during summer unless it's necessary. If money is needed find a job with a higher salary. Low pay and flexibke scheduling is good for school but its preferable to work less hours with higher pay than waste time you could be doing relaxing things or studying. Basically don't do this to yourself.
